*"THE REGION'S PREMIER FILM EVENT" Carla Meyer - Sacramento Bee*
*Dear Supporters, Friends, Volunteers, and Patrons of the Sacramento French
Film Festival,*
In these distressing and uncertain times facing us in the U.S., in France,
and all around the world, we hope that you, your family and friends are
safe and comfortable.
Given the rapidly evolving public health situation involving the Covid-19
virus, it is hard to predict how things will evolve in the next couple of
months and, just like many other arts organizations, we are unsure if our
next event will be able to happen as planned.
At this time, we want to remain optimistic and we are still planning for
the best – not only for us as a community, but also for the best Festival!
We are watching potential films and organizing our receptions. But the
truth is that we really do not know if the 19th Sacramento French Film
Festival (scheduled for June 19-28 at the Crest Theatre) will happen as
planned.
Additionally, we are aware that a lot of people are facing or will face
financial difficulties due to the pandemic.
Therefore, we have decided not to send out sponsoring appeals for support
for the time being. We are in close contact with the Crest Theatre and will
reach out to you when we know more. We know we can count on your support
when the times comes!
In the meantime, the well-being and health of all of us is what matters
most.
Stay safe!
Sincerely,
*Cécile & the SFFF Team*

27** - 4:30pm & 9pm*
A live concert designed as a soundtrack to a montage of silent films by
George Méliès (1861 – 1938), considered the inventor of cinematography by
the Lumière brothers. The concert is the musical brainchild of
Jean-François Alcoléa, who has created a magical show where a
multi-layered, evocative and intricate score complements and interprets the
otherwise silent films.
A trio of virtuoso musicians conjure music from a wide array of
instruments: basics like piano, percussion and guitar; fantastic oddities
like the aquaphone (ocean harp), theremin and melodica; and mundane objects
like stemware, circular saws, and even plastic take-out lids. The
mesmerizing score, with its panoply of unexpected sounds, evokes the
wizardry, hilarity, and stream of invention bequeathed to cinema by Méliès.

San Francisco-based SonoMusette, featuring Parisian singer Mimi Pirard, is
back in Sacramento! This time, SonoMusette transports us back to mid-1900s
Paris through the evocative songs of Edith Piaf. Mimi's powerful and
emotional interpretations of these classic songs provide a freshness and
excitement that is faithful to the spirit and tradition of the original
versions. The formidable musicians of SonoMusette weave musette accordion,
piano, guitar, upright bass, and drums to create a musical tapestry for
these enchanting songs and melodies. The concert will also feature a set of
music made famous by other iconic French performers of the era.
