*11:00am FACES, PLACES
<http://www.sacramentofrenchfilmfestival.org/movie2017_visages-villages.htm>
(Visages, villages, 89 min) 2016 by Agnès Varda & JR *
DOCUMENTARY / ROAD MOVIE
Rendez-Vous with Le Professeur Kevin Elstob after the screening.
89-year old Agnes Varda, one of the leading figures of the French New Wave,
and acclaimed 33 year-old French photographer and muralist JR teamed up to
co-direct the enchanting documentary/road movie Faces Places.
*1:05pm DALIDA
<http://www.sacramentofrenchfilmfestival.org/movie2017_dalida.htm> (124
min) 2017 by Lisa Azuelos MUSICAL BIOPIC*
You may have never heard of her but Dalida reigned as one of France’s most
celebrated and successful singers from the late 1950s through the 1980s,
with a repertoire of hits as vast and varied as her -very public- private
life was tumultuous and tragic. Today, thirty years after her death in
1987, Dalida still inspires enduring love and Lisa Azuelos (LOL, French and
American versions)’s glittery biopic was a huge success in France when it
was released last spring.
*3:45pm CORPORATE
<http://www.sacramentofrenchfilmfestival.org/movie2017_corporate.htm> (95
min) 2017 by Nicolas Silhol SOCIAL THRILLER*
Rendez-vous with Le Professeur Kevin Elstob after the screening.
Corporate, the debut feature of writer/director Nicolas Silhol, is a smart
and fascinating office thriller inspired by the series of suicides at
France Telecom that shocked France in the early 2010’s.
*6:00pm BACK TO BURGUNDY
<http://www.sacramentofrenchfilmfestival.org/movie2017_ce-qui-nous-lie.htm>
(Ce qui nous lie, 113 min) 2017 by Cédric Klapisch FEEL GOOD FAMILY DRAMEDY*
Rendez-vous with Le Professeur Kevin Elstob after the screening.
Cédric Klapisch, one of our audience’s favorite filmmakers is back with
Back to Burgundy, a quintessentially French film about wine, family, and
roots! Back to Burgundy is set in the gorgeous landscapes of Burgundy, over
the course of four seasons, beginning and ending with the harvest. This
family dramedy is full of nostalgia and humor. It is also a wonderful
document on traditional winemaking.
*8:30pm MR & MRS ADELMAN
<http://www.sacramentofrenchfilmfestival.org/movie2017_adelman.htm>
(Monsieur & Madame Adelman, 120 min) 2017 by Nicolas Bedos ECCENTRIC
COMEDY/ROMANCE*
Rendez-Vous with Le Professeur Kevin Elstob after the screening.
Screening followed by late night treats -Coffee & Pastries- provided by
Coffee Works
This feature debut from French comedic bad boy Nicolas Bedos (son of iconic
stand-up comedian Guy Bedos) is an erudite and witty celebration of love
“for better and for worst”. Walking a razor’s edge between bitingly cynical
and ironically romantic, Mr. & Mrs. Adelman chronicles half a century of
passions, ambitions, victories, secrets, and betrayals. It is a whimsical
tribute to the madness implied in the idea of sharing a whole life with
someone.
