In conjunction with our *Serge! *Celebration, and for the first time this
year, the Sacramento French Film Festival is launching a call for artists
so that the Sacramento arts community can be represented on the “Gainsbourg
Wall” in Paris!
Create a stencil inspired by French icon Serge Gainsbourg. The winning
design will be stenciled on the iconic graffiti-covered wall in front of
Gainsbourg’s house on rue de Verneuil in Paris this summer. Photo
documentation will be provided back to the winner!
Gainsbourg lived at 5 bis rue de Verneuil from 1969 until his death in
1991. Since he passed away, artists and fans have been paying homage to him
by adding graffiti, poems, collages, and stencils on the wall in front of
his house, making the “Gainsbourg Wall” a constantly evolving work of art.
Entries will be judged by a team composed of members of the SFFF, Verge
Center for the Arts, and local artists.
Artists are to create a stencil tribute to Serge Gainsbourg.
*Size*: No more than a one yard square.
*Content*: The only specifications are that the word “Sacramento” must be a
component of the artwork and the stencil must roll up for transport to
France.
Artists are to provide a stencil and an example of the final product.
*THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS
THURSDAY, MAY 30th, 2013.*
The winner will be announced at the Crest Theatre during the 12th
Sacramento French Film Festival.
Entries are being accepted at University Art’s Midtown
location<http://www.universityart.com/Sacramento_Midtown>at 2601 J
Street during their regular business hours (call

*Followed by a post screening discussion with Le Professeur Kevin Elstob!*
Featuring gorgeous cinematography of rural France, this comedy-drama is
"like taking a vacation to the French countryside" (*Green Cine Daily*). It
is summer, and thirty-year-old Antoine is forced to leave the city to
return to his family in Provençe. His father is sick, so he must assume the
lifestyle he thought he had shed—driving the family grocery cart from
hamlet to hamlet, delivering supplies to the few remaining inhabitants.
Accompanied by Claire, a friend from Paris whom he has a crush on, Antoine
gradually warms up to his experience in the country and his encounters with
the villagers, who initially seem stubborn and gruff, but ultimately prove
to be funny and endearing. At first distant and callous, Antoine opens up
to others and grows helpful and compassionate when he realizes that he has
a lot to learn from the people he meets and from his own family.
Ultimately, this surprise French box-office hit is about the coming-of-age
of a man rediscovering life and love in the countryside. *Watch Trailer
