the 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's pop-culture, all through a fog of Gitanes

influential popular musicians. Come and celebrate the spirit of

*APRIL 29th is ARTS DAY OF GIVING,
SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE FILM FESTIVAL!!!*
If you are considering renewing your support, or becoming a first-time
supporter of the SFFF and are able to donate online, please remember April
29th The Arts day of Giving and give more value to your support!
The first Sacramento Arts Day of Giving will be held on Monday, April 29th,
2013. This online fundraising event is organized by the Sacramento
Metropolitan Arts Commission, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation,
and For Arts Sake.
On that day, contributions made through the "Give Local" website will be
matched! At this time we don't know exactly how, as it will depend on the
success of the experience ("all organizations will receive a prorated
portion of the match pool") but it will definitely be worth it!
Donations must be made on April 29th, through the Give Local website, with
a credit card. Minimum donation = $25!
*More information coming soon!

*Don't miss the 16th Sacramento Jewish Film Festival! **
Coming up this week-end at the Crest Theatre,
March 7th-10th, 2013!*
*Sacramento Jewish Film Festival 2013 - PROGRAM***
*Thursday, March 7, 2013 -** 7:30pm
*
*Deaf Jam:* Aneta Brodski is an Israeli-born teenager living in Queens, New
York. She is passionate and driven and well liked by her high school
classmates. Unique among her classmates, Aneta longs to fully participate
in the hearing world.* 1 hour 20 minutes, American Sign Language and
English with English subtitles*
*The Wine Bar: *On a winter night in New York City, Henry wanders into an
upscale wine bar looking for a beer. Obviously out of place, Henry
innocently offends both the snooty Bartender and Evelyn, the pretty young
woman quietly reading next to him. When Steven, Evelyn's hotheaded
boyfriend, comes in looking for a fight, Henry decides to take matters into
his own hands. *12 minutes*
*Saturday, March 9, 2013 - **7:30pm*
***The Matchmaker: *Arik, a teenage boy growing up in Haifa in 1968, gets a
job working for Yankele Bride, a matchmaker. Yankele, a mysterious
Holocaust survivor, has an office in back of a movie theater that shows
only love stories, run by a family of seven Romanian dwarves in the seedy
area by the port. As Arik begins to learn the mysteries of the human heart
through his work with Yankele, he falls in love with Tamara, his friend
Beni's cousin. Tamara has just returned from America and is full of talk of
women's rights, free love and rock and roll. The disparate parts of Arik's
life collide in unexpected, often funny and very moving ways as he lives
through a summer that changes him forever. *1 hour 52 minutes, Hebrew with
English subtitles*
*Flawed: *A charming film about very big ideas. Andrea Dorfman has the
uncanny ability to transform the intensely personal into the wisely
universal. She deftly traces her encounter with a potential romantic
partner, questioning her attraction and the uneasy possibility of love.
But, ultimately, *Flawed* is less about whether girl can get along with boy
than whether girl can accept herself, imperfections and all. *12 minutes,
English*
*Sunday, March 10, 2013 - **1pm
*
*Portrait of Wally:* Egon Schiele’s tender picture of his mistress,
Walburga (“Wally”) Neuzil is the pride of the Leopold Museum in Vienna. But
for 13 years the painting was locked up in New York, caught in a legal
battle between the Austrian museum and the Jewish family from whom the
Nazis seized the painting in 1939. This documentary traces the history of
this iconic image.* 1 hour 30 minutes, English*
**
*Sunday, March 10, 2013 - **3pm***
*Hava Nagila: The Movie: *Featuring interviews with Harry Belafonte, Connie
Francis, Glen Campbell, Leonard Nimoy, Regina Spektor and more, Hava Nagila
(The Movie) follows the song from the shtetls of Eastern Europe to the
kibbutzim of Palestine to the cul-de-sacs of America. *1 hour 25 minutes,
English*
*Don't Tell Santa You're Jewish: *At her hockey league's Christmas party a
seven-year-old girl is encouraged by her mom to pretend she's not Jewish so
she can sit on Santa's knee. This coming-of-age comedic tale addresses the
anxiety of not fitting in. *3 minutes 23 seconds, English**
