Hilltop,
Today, I attended the followup presentation and interview for our sign topper/logo grant. My original budget called for sign toppers at every intersection within our neighborhood boundaries. The total was 13 signs on the perimeter and 28 signs inside the neighborhood for a total of 41 sign toppers.
As you may already know, the grants this year are in tiers. The first $3,000 tier requires a 5% match. The next tier, up to a maximum of $7,000, requires a 10% match. My original budget listed 41 signs, and I requested a $4,000 grant. I was hoping Neighborhood Partners would allow us to pay 5% on the $3,000 and 10% on the additional $1,000 needed to get us up to $4,000. This would have been a total dollar match from Hilltop of $250. Unfortunately that is not the case. To get a $4,000 grant would require us to pay $400, which we currently do not have in the bank.
That leaves us two options:
Reduce the request to $3,000 and reduce the number of sign toppers to 30, or
Raise an additional $250 to get the $4,000 grant and all 41 sign toppers.
It may be well into the new year before we are required to pay the match. We could possibly use the 2009 membership dues to make up the difference, but that seems very risky. We would be counting our chickens before they hatch.
I propose we have a fund drive to raise the additional $250. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested, because I will need to contact Neighborhood Partners to request that they reinstate the original amount.
We are also looking for help installing the logo/toppers onto the street signs. If you know of anyone who could install them at a reasonable price, please let me know. Better yet.... if there are any volunteers, we could offset the signs with the installation costs. We could possibly purchase a few additional signs should any need replacing.
I'll keep you all posted on the progress of our grant application. Please let me know if you are interested in raising additional funds, or if you have any great ideas to help us out!
Thanks,
Kevin Knight
