I agree with Maddie. I will try my best to be at the zoning meeting as well.

One of our HNA goals is to return mutli-family dwellings back into single family homes. Part of the problem is the City allowing single home neighborhoods to become zoned in different ways. Its seems prevalent thoughout Chattanooga, and that is one reason many of our neighborhoods have no character.

As for this special permit, it simply shouldn't be allowed. There is plenty of empty space in buildings all up and down Brainerd Road that could accommodate this establishment.

I suppose that 15 kids during the day would not disrupt our lives all that much. I don't object to the nature of the business, it wouldn't be any more of a distraction than an attorney's office.

I am going to have to differ with you on this point. I do think that a daycare center permitted for 15 children would disrupt the neighborhood but perhaps not in the ways you are thinking. While I do tip my head to the idea that they indeed will increase cut through traffic on Lerch and traffic snarl ups on Germantown I think the larger issues loom when you talk about a business ( home) that will not be occupied in the evenings or presumably weekends. Not to mention signage and the decor of the property in order for it to function as a business, including converting the facility and yard into that which would be suitable for child play and suitable parking.

There is something special and intrinsic when it come the to the difference between a home and a home that has been converted to a business, especially a business that would see a minimum of 30-40 daily visits. I also suspect that the interior changes that will occur to this property in the name of doing business would pretty much forever doom this property to never regaining it's status as a single family dwelling. So in the end I do think that it will be a much greater distraction than the attorney's office will ever be.

For all these reasons and more I do agree that it's a bad deal and I will voice my objection to it.
