The name does remind me of Britney Spears, which lately is not a good thing, but we'll see Can't hurt to talk with them, whoever them may be.

Alcohol and drug free??? Club TOXIC. Isn't this somewhat of an oxymoron?

I read your thoughts on your blog. Thank you. Knee-jerk reactions are never the answer...we need to take a step back and TALK with the proposed club's owner. Why does everyone assume it will be like the previous "KAOS"? Perhaps the intent of the owner is to have a safe haven for teenagers to spend the evening. Keeping kids off the streets and out of trouble by providing an alcohol/drug free place to "hang out" is not such a bad idea, especially if there is plenty of security to keep those who would disrupt the place out.

Has anyone sought a dialogue between representatives of the Brainerd community and the club owner, to see if there are compromises and assurances that can be worked out? Councilperson Berz may have suggested this as well, because I know she is a mediator by profession; but it just struck me as a step that could be attempted prior to heading straight for petitions and subsequent government interference with free enterprise.

Thanks,

Joe Lance

ps - I have published my thoughts in more detail on my blog, and I wanted to be up front with this group about doing so: http://civicforum.chattablogs.com/archives/069476.html

Agreed! I'd be happing to sign something, do we know how far along they are in terms of opening? As a side note, the pup is back in our front yard. I took him up to their house yesterday afternoon to tell them we'd try to find a home for him and asked for the puppy food. The young man there said he didn't want to give him away so I had no choice but to give him back... but as we were having a cup of coffee this morning we saw him bounding and bouncing after a woman carrying her very small dog. So, we've got him again. Thank you to Marti for suggesting the 23rd Street Animal Clinic. :) Please put the word out! Thanks! Meredith & Lauren

Is there not some way we can sign a petition or something? The last thing we need on Brainerd Road is another club!!

Anyone heard about the new 14,000 sq. ft. club called Toxic? We will have it practically right across the street from our house. If you drive between Dollar General & O’Reilly’s you will see it. Oh boy it will be a loud summer!
